Draft Prospects Under the Microscope
Deadline day has passed and there were some big time underclassmen that surprised everyone by staying in school. However, this year's draft is chopped full of some of the most talented under classmen in years.
This is when most NFL scouts are scrambling to get all their stats and analysis up to speed on their team's possible newest talent. From late November to early December scouts are doing senior prospect evaluations and getting in touch with their coaches. The information is collected from the team's college scout from their designated area and submitted to the team's director of college scouting, like Eric DeCasta, who reads over all the information which goes into who the add to thier draft board for the 2011 season.
Right now team scout are taking another long and deep look at some of the players on their list whose production has significantly differed in a very positive or negative way in their final collegiate year. Several NFL scouts are going back and making sure they haven't missed the next big star hiding amongst several rosters of potential Pros.
Bowl season has just ended and new NFL prospects have emmerged and have made scouts jobs even more difficult on who they should keep and who gets bumped off their list. Most teams are beginning to get started on their off-season duties and the draft is high on their list of priorities.
Many draft commentators like Mike Mayock and Mel Kiper Jr. are finishing their 32 1st round picks. They will analyze speed, strength knowledge, and experience and will contribute to the rise and fall of a players draft stock, but you can't analyze a player's heart and devotion once they're in the NFL. Players' stock will rise and fall based on their performance at one of the most aggressive tials in the country, the combine. The combine can lead to great players being dropped to the 7th round or Free Agency and diamonds in the ruff going in the top 3 rounds.
Be sure to watch the Under Armour Senior Bowl and combine coverage on NFL Network. The Senior Bowl will showcase the country's best senior collegiate football players and the last chance to see how they perform in a game situation. The 2011 Senior Bowl starts Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 3pm (CT). The 2011 NFL Draft will start this year on Thursday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. ET in New York City.
