The 13th Annual Polar Bear Plunge
Rookie Of The Year!!!

A record 12,000 participants came out to Sandy Point State Park, MD along with 20,000 spectators and raised over $2.5 million for the Special Olympics. Due to that fact that there were so many people comming to the event they held one at 1 PM and 3 PM. The day became colder and windier, but that didn't stop many from still comming to help out. Even the Baltimore Ravens came out to join in the fun. Offensive tackle, Adam Terry, was one of only 100 others to spend an insane 24 hours jumping in and out of the Chesapeake Bay. The normal amount is said to be roughly 24 times in a day, while Terry decided he wanted to go 24 hours, plunging 100 times. The player being the classy guys they are told media that they were not just comming to raise money, but to show their support and respect for men and women who participate in the special olympics. Terry related how when professional football players goout on to the field, they might get a bump or bruise and sit out, but may think twice after meeting with some of these special athletes. The center and leader of the offensive line, Jsaon Brown said, “We’re athletes, and these are athletes in their prime as well. We’re all doing something that we love, and this is something we can all take part in.” Some didn't think he'd be so positive after he actually got in the freezing cold water, but Jason returned to the sandy banks revitalized and full of energy. "That was a very exhilarating experience," he said. "I'll definitely be back, I'm going to commit next year to being a Super Plunger - 24 plunges in 24 hours." Some other famous people who came were Quarterback Joe Flacco, tight end Quinn Sypniewski, and Maryland governor Martin O’Malley. Quarterback Joe flacco seemed skeptical, but after he joined in he said "It was a lot of fun. You warm up pretty quickly once you get out." This is an annual event in Maryland that raises money for the special olympics so come and take the pludge or sponsor someone who is brave enough or just crazy enough to jump right in. Video.
